Level 13

Nevada Desert

Desert

Look to the skies as the level gets underway, and get used to it.  You never know what you might see ... There's buzzards up above and rattlesnakes down below. The snakes favour the bushes. Off to the right, a snake rests with a rocket.

Cross the pool and explore the passage round to the right. There's a hallway at the far end that's hard to see from a distance. Push the movable block that you find in a dip along the path. Take the ammo and continue up the trail. From the far side of the central platform of the two running jumps, you can hang and drop into a barbed wire-free zone.

Take a step forward to find Secret #1 - a Save Crystal, flares and a small medikit plus lots of snakes. To exit the area, you push the block over by the third snake. Dealing with the snake first is prudent.  Continue along the path into daylight. Walk slowly to the right of the metal structure, ready for anything...

Once you've picked yourself up, run and jump from the trail near the metal structure to the ledge.  Dispose of the snake near the bush, then run and jump to the closest portion of the distant walkway. Run off the end of the path when it dead-ends, and you'll land on a ledge below.

Continue along the trail, stepping down to claim a large medikit, and then go back to the higher ledge and run and jump-grab for the rocks opposite (aim for the left hand side). Continue to the top of the box, wary of the snake you see along the way. Drop through the hole in the top of the large metal box and you'll fall into a waterway far below. Swim along until you can surface.

Follow the trail.

The large canyon is dominated by the waterfalls at one end. In the opposite direction from the falls, the trail is less glamorous.  That's your route. Do a running jump to the triangular ledge and a standing jump-grab to the next. Be ready for a bird attack and when the coast is clear continue along the path.  Eventually, you reach a high ledge.

Stop for a breather and look around. The rock formations are pretty but across the gorge you can make out a rock ladder. Before heading that way turn around to look back along the path and make the long jump to pick up some Uzi clips. Return to the high ledge. Run and jump across the canyon to the rock ladder on the far side. Since this is your first trip, you might as well climb down and get the secret.

Climb down to the crevice and drop-grab to get below it. At the angled opening go right as far as possible and then drop-grab and climb up for Secret #2 - Desert Eagle and MP5 clips. From the secret, drop into the water below (jump - Lara bangs her head if you just drop off the end!).

There's plenty of stuff scattered on the river floor as you head back to the falls. In all: 2 sets of Uzi ammo, 2 sets of shells and some flares. Don't overlook the waterfall niches when searching...  From the water, climb the low red rock near the waterfall.

Climb the tall red rock next to that. Run and jump to the slope directly across the canyon. Don't grab! If you just run and jump, you arrive standing up. Jump across to the next block and drop to the left to pick up some shells. A standing jump returns you to the path.

Do a running jump across the river to grab a block and then climb the rock ladder to return to the cave where you entered the gorge.  Time for the big backtrack. Head back around the canyon as you did to find the secret, but this time climb up the rock ladder to the top and head left. Jump shy of the bush, or you'll step on the snake lurking thereabouts. Don't fall in the hole on the ledge when you jump past the rock.

Past the rock and the hole, hang from the ledge and drop to the crack below. Shimmy left. From the ledge at the end of the crack, jump up and grab the underside of the ledge. Monkey swing to the cliff face. Press up against the cliff, then drop and grab to hold the rock ladder.

Climb to the left and up.  In the area near the Save Crystal, you'll find a small medikit and an explosives detonator. Follow the wires into the cave and you'll see a big TNT box. There are also flares down there in a cave to the side. You need the Detonator Key to set off the charge, so return to the cave entrance.

Jump to the slope beside the falls, and grab the edge when you slide. Climb down to the ledge below, Follow it along the cliff. From the end of the ledge, jump and grab the tall climbable surface. Climb all the way to the top, and back flip to a flat rock. From the flat rock, jump and grab the slope in between the falls.

When you pull up, you'll slide toward a ledge. Jump to reach it. Take the small medikit, jump to the crack, and shimmy right. When the camera pulls back, drop, slide and jump to back flip across the waterway.  Jump the small platforms up the stream.

A gigantic waterwheel dominates the cavern.

On the left shore, run round a boulder to the left and kill a snake. About-face at that point and crawl under the large rock. Stand at the corner and climb the wall to find Secret #3 - a snake guarding Uzi ammo. Return to the shore and explore.  There's a small chamber down a tunnel to the left of the waterwheel.  Inside is a lift shaft with the lift in the down position and a Save Crystal across the way.

Ignore it for now and return to the waterwheel.

Kill the bad guy round the back and climb up the ladder to the top of the wheel.

Follow the sides of the channel to an open area, ready for an air assault. After the buzzards are dead head left for the snake and then run around the water's edge, jumping the two water outlets to go into a smaller area with grenades and a hidden snake.

Go through to the water's edge, just to the left of the big dam.  You can swim down to a lever which opens a door behind you. Once you collect the Desert Eagle clips from the small underwater chamber, swim through the dam and go right through the next pool to find a lever at the end. Throw it to open a hatchway between the two water outflows.

Swim in here but as soon as you go inside look for a lever on the dark wall overhead. Pull it. Swim through the tunnel, pulling another more obvious lever, and you'll surface in a hallway. Throwing the switch here activates the waterwheel. Slide down the outflow and avoid being pulled into the sluice current by exiting the water.

On your way back to the waterwheel, check out the dry river bed. There's a large medikit at the end and you can jump to the upper ledge for a small one. There's a block below that let's you get behind the falls on the right for a rocket.  You can get back to the river bed from one end of that same block.

Your ultimate destination is the elevator chamber near the waterwheel. Dispose of the guard and take the Detonator Key from inside the lift. Now it's time to backtrack once again. Head downstream using the rocks on either side.

Jump to the small ledge between the two falls and then line yourself up for a tricky jump out through the left hand fall to the flat ledge you can just see. You may not make that ledge but will usually make the one below with a little bruising.

Climb up to the higher ledge using the rock wall and from there drop off and shimmy right. Climb down the ladder and drop-grab and then pull up to the ledge. Jump right for the rock ladder and climb back to the TNT detonator.

Back at the TNT box, notice the boulder that will threaten to ruin the big moment. Use the Detonator Key and jump to the left. In the blown-up area, climb the ledges. From the highest, large ledge, you can climb to the next area.

You seem to have stumbled on some secret military establishment but the guards aren't bothered about you while you're outside. Circle the fence to the right, picking up some grenades in the bushes, and climb to the narrow, dark passage. At the junction, jump and grab the upper ledge.

There's no need to go down just yet.  Swim down in the chamber: there are two levers to pull. One is behind the pillar; the other is in the tunnel. Backtrack to the outside (and watch that fence - it's electrified!). This time, go down the wide cave opening.

Snuff the snakes and throw the switch inside the small building.  Explore if you like but you need to return to the upper camp before you can continue. Return to the narrow passage, and choose the low road at the junction. Once the guards around the water tower are dealt with, you can climb up a ladder into the tower, swim to the other open door (not through the tunnel) and climb out. Jump from the structure to a box across the fence.

Expect trouble to turn up in twos and remember that nearby lethal current as you fight: best to get out of the narrow area. In the buildings you'll find bad guys, a pool table, a lock, and the Quad Bike. One of the bad guys drops a small medikit when you take him out and there are Uzi clips in a dark corner of the store shed.

You need to ride the Quad to the top of the building up the long slope onto the roof. Turbo is not required and you should turn right at the top of the roof. If you fly over no harm is done and the vibration seems to have loosened the lock on the office window grill, so you can abandon the Quad and climb onto the roof from the box beside the store shed.

However you do it, pick up the Generator Room Access Card which is on top of the roof and return to ground level (with the Quad if you took it up!) Use the pass in the lock in the building with the pool table and computers. Back flip when you open the generator room and take decisive action.

When the coast is clear go into the little room and switch the electricity off. With the electricity off, open up the main gate the switch is right beside it. Ride the Quad Bike down into the cave and use the big jump to clear the fence protecting the second military base. You almost make it...
