Tomb of Semerkhet

Room with vases:

Vases, hmm! They may contain goodies or they may contain baddies.  This time you are in luck. Shoot the vases and pick up Uzi clips and a large medi-pack.

Room of Beetles:

Slide down the ramp and enter a room of scarab beetles. If you have seen The Mummy, you will appreciate Lara's predicament. Beetle, beetles everywhere and nowhere to hide! Look up in the centre of the room and spy the monkey bars. Swing your way across the swarm of beetles beneath you.

Drop into a room with a pole.

Room with pole:

Top floor: Do a standing jump with grab to the pole. Slide down to the next lower level. Do a backwards jump off of the pole. Shoot the two vases and pick up a small medi-pack. Near the flame, pick up the torch. To light the torch carefully approach the flame using one walking step at a time.

After each step, try using the Action key to try light the torch.  Once the torch is lit, drop into the room below. (Lara cannot use the pole to climb down.)

Bottom floor:

More nasty beetles. The torch helps keep the beetles away from Lara.

(The Scarabs won't swarm you if you have a lit torch in your hand. They just gather around a foot or two away.  You will still take damage if you walk through them, and one or two will attack you regardless.  

I tried using the torch and without the torch. I don't think there is much difference for losing health.

You may want to use the torch to figure out where the holes are, then drop the torch and run around the room and find the recesses on the outer wall with the small holes in the wall. Use the Action key to pull out goodies like a small medi-pack or open doors in the room above. Have a medi-pack or three to keep Lara's health up. When done, throw down the torch with the space bar (used to draw your guns), then quickly do a standing jump grab to the pole. Climb up to the floor above.

Do a backwards jump from the pole.

A door is now open in one of the walls. Walk through the open door and it closes. Use the action key to open the red door, climb over the block in the hall and drop through the hole in the floor.  Large chamber with a chess board?

Jump over to the high ledges on the left side of the room to a climbing ladder (side of room with multicoloured chess pieces). Climb up to near the top, then sideways, drop down and find Secret #1! Pick up a small medi-pack and blue shotgun shells. Do a diagonal standing jump grab to the ladder and climb back down.

Wander around the chamber and look in the hall on the side of the chamber with the Gold chess pieces. Find a climbing ladder, climb up, then do a jump grab to a higher ledge.

Room with dogs and holes with fires:

Kill the two dogs with horns. Then walk over to the three small holes with flames. Start with the one on the right. Wait until the flame dies down.

Run forward and use the Action key to place Lara's hand in the hole.  Immediately leap back out of harms way. The right one appears to turn off the middle fire. Finally, do the left hole and be very quick to pull out the small medi-pack and get out of the way. These actions open a door to the right of the three holes.

Door to the right of the three holes with fire:

Walk through the pool and jump to the centre of the floor between the fires in the pit. Watch the fires in the holes and pick one where the flame dies down. The left bottom turns off the flame in the right middle hole. The right middle hole turns off the flame in the right bottom hole.

The right bottom hole raises the platform. Continue in this fashion until all of the small holes have been activated.

Left bottom:  Turns off right middle.

Left middle:  Opens the door back to the room with the two dogs after the monkey bars.

Left top: Red shotgun shells

Right bottom:  Raise platform.

Right middle:  Turns off Right bottom.

Right top:   Small Medi-pack. Turns off flame in Left top.

When done, climb out of the flame pit and look for some monkey bars.  Swing across the deep pit and find yourself back in the room with dogs and holes of fire.

Room with dogs and holes with fires- high central platform:

Go to one end of the metal cage and climb up on a block. Do a jump grab to the top of the cage, then take a long running jump from the cage to the high ledge in the centre of the room. Find the hole with the flame, reach in and turn off the flame in the bottom chamber.  Walk to the edge of the ledge (away from the platform) and look around the corner. A climbing wall. Drop down over the edge and shimmy to the left.

Climb up and keep shimming left around the corners and make your way to Secret #2! Climb up and pick up blue shotgun shells and a large medi-pack.

Climb down below the secret alcove and let go to drop to the floor below.

Run down the ramp to the bottom chamber (formerly blocked by flames). Pick up the Rules of Senet which opens the doors above the climbing ladder on the other side of the large chamber with chess board. Select the Rules of Senet from the inventory and select Examine to read the rules.

OR

I skipped the 6 fire holes all together, because it looks like the only gain in doing it (with a lot of medi-packs to loose) is to raise the cage so you can jump over to the single fire hole and turn the fire off to get the rules. Stand on the blocks to the right of the 3 fire holes, run and jump, turning to the right a bit and grab a hold of the ledge below the ladders. climb up and shimmy around the corner, man she does that so well, and climb up to the single fire hole to gain access to the rules (down in the pit guarded by the fire) and the Senet game (opens the door). I think this may be a defect, because from the ledge, you can't climb back around to the ladders.

Playing Chess or Senet:

Return to the chamber with the chessboard; find the other hallway with the climbing ladder. Climb up and do a backwards jump. You are now ready to play an Egyptian version of chess! Play chess with an Egyptian God.  Senet was the game of the Pharaohs. The most popular game of ancient Egypt, played by millions from 3000 BC to 400 AD.

To play you spin the tiles in one corner of the room, then you walk on the coloured square for the piece you want to move. You want to get your red, blue and green pieces all the way to the end of the board to the last Ankh at the end of the board. You blast the gold pieces out of the water by moving to the same square they are on. Of course, the can do the same to you.

Getting all black tiles is six and an extra turn. Landing on an Ankh is an extra turn. Getting all of your pieces out on the board helps because then you can look at all three pieces to see if you can land on an Ankh or blast your opponent out of the water. Winning raises platforms on the chess board; losing opens a hole in the floor by the chess board. Take a standing jump grab to the climbing wall, climb down and use the stairs in the hallway to get return to the top floor of the chamber.

Winning the Game Path (less secrets)

Winning the game: Platforms on the chess board:

Do a simple jump to the first platform from the ledge at the top of the stairs. Next, use a long running jump to the next platform. Use long running jumps with grabs from the last two platforms. A simple jump from the last platform to the high ledge at the end of the chamber.  Follow the hall all the way down the two sets of stairs. Run to the door with the amulet sign. It opens and out pop two dogs that want Lara for dinner.

Winning the Game:

After Steel double doors with Ankh.

Enter the open doors and shoot the two vases. Pick up some Uzi clips. Go down the stairs, shoot the vase and pick up red shotgun shells. At the bottom of the stairs, shoot the dog. Entering the next hall triggers another dog. Drop down the hole in the floor and enter the Beetle room.

Winning the game: Beetle room.

Run for the other end of the room as the beetles come out of nowhere. Do a jump over the short ramp and climb up the pole to safety.

Winning the Game: Room with rays of light.

Two dogs sleeping. Let sleep dogs lay. Continue to the room with the pole.

Wait for two bats to fly down before climbing the pole. Do a backwards jump off the pole and make your way into the room with the coloured chess pieces.

Winning the Game: Room with coloured chess pieces.

Move the red chess piece to the other red square. Move the dark green chess piece to the other dark green square, and move the light green chess piece to the light green square. This turns off all the rays of light on the gold stone and wakes up the puppies. Go back down the pole and on your way back to the room with the rays of light, shoot the dogs.

Drop down into the hole in the floor and crawl through the crawlspace. Drop

Down into another room.

Losing the Chess Game Path (more secrets)

Losing the game: hole in the floor:

Drop down into the hole in the floor. Slide down the ramps and make a stand jump grab from one of the lower ramps to a ledge. Secret #3!  Do a standing jump grab to the pole. Slide down. Shoot the two vases and pick up blue shotgun shells and a small medi-pack. Go back up the pole and do a backwards jump to a safe ledge.

Save your game. Climb back up and try to drop down to the centre of the ramp. Slide down and do a standing jump grab to the pole at the bottom of the ramp. Slide down the pole and do a backwards jump to a ledge.

Pick up Uzi clips and a small medi-pack then continue your climb down the pole.

Chamber with ropes:

Take a long running jump to the nearby ledge. Find a hallway and continue up the steps.

Room with 2 hammers:

Shoot the two dogs that are protecting the room. Pull the gold chess piece between the two hammers. Push the lever to smash the gold chess piece.

Pick up the Cartouche Piece 1 after the item is smashed.

Chamber with ropes:

From the pole that you first slid down, take a long running jump to a lower ledge between two slanted blocks. Push the doors open and find Secret #4! Pick up normal crossbow ammo and a small medi-pack. Slide down one of the ramps and drop to the floor below.  Find the climbing ladder and climb up and climb around the corner to drop down on the left ledge. Look for a high crawlspace and climb up and crawl until you can stand up. Turn around and climb to the higher ledge.  Another gold chess piece with two hammers nearby! Pull the gold chess piece towards the hammers. Drop over the edge and shimmy past the gold chess piece, so that you can push the gold chess piece between the hammers.

Stand back and the hammers smash the gold chess piece leaving Cartouche Piece 2. Go to the end of the walkway and drop down to the ledge below.

Room below hammers:

Shoot the two puppies with horns and find a vase to shoot. Pick up a small medi-pack and red shotgun shells. Climb back up the walkway. Go back to the crawlspace from which you came. (Note back up a walking step or two to jump back into the crawlspace ledge. Standing jump grab sometimes helps.)

Return to the chamber with the ropes.

Chamber with ropes:

Continue up the climbing ladder and climb up by a pole. Shoot the bat, then climb up the pole and do a backwards jump to the safe ledges up above. Pick up normal crossbow ammo and blue shotgun shells. Climb down the pole.

 (Note, you can climb higher, but it won't do much good.)

The ropes seem to be for getting to the other side of the room if you happened to come into the chamber from the other side.  Combine the Cartouche Pieces and place them in the receptacle by one of the doors. This releases two of those mangy mutts. Enter the next room.

Cartouche Room with fires:

A gold chess piece and hammers - you know what to do. All except those pesky fires. Save your game. One end of the room is a switch on the wall high up. Take a long running jump with grab to pull the switch which shuts off the fires. The music is a good indicator of how long you have.  Skip the poles, and find a crawlspace near the switch.

Crawl to the climbing ladder, then climb up. Run to the gold chess piece and pull it down as far as you can (of course, without burning up.) You will need to repeat turning off the switch, going up the ladder and jumping to get on the other side of the chess piece to push the last block length. The hammers swing and you can pick up the Ra Cartouche. Go down to the door with the Ankh symbol and use the Ra Cartouche piece to open the door.

Fire Wraiths:

Go through the door and follow the large hallway until you see some ropes hanging from the ceiling. A fire demon will start following Lara.  Run back to the room with the fires and pools and jump in the water to extinguish the fire demon. Return to the large hall with ropes and find a large room with a lever. Pull the lever to release a blue fire demon. Repeat the trip back to the room with fires and the pools of water to extinguish this demon. (Note at later levels, a gold bird statue is needed to kill the white fire demon. This may have been what happened.)

OR

 Get rid of the fire elemental before you go for the ropes. Run to the right down the ramp where the switch is. You have to throw the switch to let the cold elemental out. It will deal with the fire elemental letting you roam around without being set on fire. The trick is timing; it takes too much time to throw the switch. The fire elemental seems to run a path that gets smaller when Lara is near the same place. So run down the ramp at a slight angle to the switch. With a little luck the fire elemental will miss you on the first path, and since it has to make a long turn (because you just arrived at that location) it gives you enough time to throw the switch which lets the cold elemental out. Take that you fire breathing witch!

The ropes:

You have three ropes you need to play Tarzan on. Save your game. Use the Dash key (/) to swing and then add the Jump key at the top of the swing.

Immediately, let go of all keys except the Action/Grab key to grab the other rope. Slide to the bottom of the rope and line up your swing.  If the swing looks crooked, wait for Lara to stop swinging and reline up your swing. Repeat the Jump at the end of the swing and only press the Grab key for the next rope. Swing to the platform at the other end of the room.

Secret #5! Pick up grenade gun normal ammo, revolver ammo and Uzi clips.

Use long running jump with grab to the rope, and this time swing to the other platform near the flame. Approach the platform with the pole and several bats fly up behind you. Kill them and then take a long running jump grab to the platform with the pole.

Platform with pole:

Climb up the pole and do a backwards jump onto the platform. Walk around the ledge and kill the bats. Do a standing jump grab to the high switch and pull the switch which lowers the ledge in front of the small hole.

Drop to the lower platform. Take a jump to the platform with the pole and climb up. Backwards jump to the platform and put your hand in the small hole and pull out a torch?

The torch:

You need to make your way back to the bottom to light the torch.  First throw the torch to the bottom floor. Then make your way back down to the bottom floor and pick up the torch. Light your torch with the flame using the Action key. Now light the two torches on the wall near the flame which open a door in the floor. Climb down the ladder and then drop to the lower hall.

Slicer dicer:

Secret #6! A new and unusual slicer/dicer which makes mincemeat out of poor Lara. Dash towards the slicer/dicer and when you get to it, add the Jump key to make Lara do a diving roll through the slicer/dicer.  Pick up grenade gun Flash ammo, flares, a large medi-pack and blue shotgun shells.

Somewhere in there, scarab beetles appear. Keep running around pick stuff up and having a medi-pack or two. Find your way back to the higher ledge and climb back up through the hole in the floor.  Where to now?

You need to make your way all the way back up to the pole where you found the torch. Swing across all three ropes. At the last rope, stop your swing, then line up a swing to the left landing. Make your way over to the pole on a high platform. Take a long running jump with grab to the ledge with the pole.  Climb up the pole and a backwards jump to the closest ledge. Follow the perimeter of the ledge and use a standing jump grab across the gap to the ledge on the other side of the pole. You will need to do a jump and grab several times to grab the ledge in the overhead hole in the hallway. Climb up.

Room at top of building with switch:

Do a standing jump grab to the switch to pull the switch and raise a platform. Climb up on top of the platform. Now look up overhead. Do a jump grab to the hole in the ceiling above the platform. Climb up. Secret #7!

Climb up and pick up the Uzi (just more ammo), red crossbow ammo, and a large medi-pack. Drop down to the platform. Repeat the jump grab to the higher room. Go up the ramps and a jump grab to get on the platform.  Run down the hall and drop down into a new area.
