Guardian of Semerkhet

The beginning.

Look around and then drop down into the hole. Slide down a ramp and find yourself in a hall with a slicer/dicer. You need to do a diving roll to get through it. Get back away from the slicer/dicer, start running and add the Dash key (/), when you get near the slicer/dicer, add the Jump key to do a diving roll. You have yet one more slicer/dicer to go through.  Slide down the ramp and find yourself in the Map room.

Map room:

Check out the map and you should be able to recognise some of the landmarks from your travels like the Sphinx.  Notice the gold receptacles on the wall. You need to get the objects for the receptacles. Climb up into one of the ramps and spy a crawlspace near the floor. Crawl through to find yourself in a nasty looking room.

Room with metal blades:

Notice the walkway with the metal blades beneath the walkway. Save your game. Turn the rotating lever to open the timed door that blocks the walkway. Start running down the walkway and jump to the next walkway. You cannot stop because either Lara will be made into mincemeat or the door will close. Next a long running jump to the walkway near the door.  Crawl under the door.  There are blades just beyond the door, so keep running and jump to the platform. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.

After reaching the platform on the other edge of the room, carefully walk up to the stand from the wall side. When you pick up the Golden Vraens, metal blades will snap in the other directions. Drop down to the floor, and make your way back to the other side of the room. Watch out for there are spikes in the floor too. Find the climbing ladder in the hall, climb up and crawl through the crawlspace. Drop down and find yourself by the rotating lever. Return to the map room by the lower crawlspace.

Map room:

Place the Golden Vraens into the receptacle. This activates the robot spider to move a beam across the map and open a pyramid to reveal the Guardian Key. Pick up the Guardian Key and place it in the other receptacle which opens a door in the floor. Drop down into the hole in the floor and slide down the ramp into a large hall.

Large Hall with torches:

Walk down the hall and notice the barred doors. Something seems to be trying to get out from behind the doors. You will come to a turn in the hall with red hieroglyph wall paintings. Pick up a small medi-pack and look up to see overhead monkey bars. Do a jump grab to the monkey bars.

Swing your way to the other end of the hall to the highest part and note the crawl space while but those darn bats keep sucking blood out of you. Swing so Lara is squarely facing the wall and as close to the wall as possible above the crawlspace. Let go of the Action/Grab key and immediately press it again to grab the crawlspace ledge. Add the Crawl key * up arrow to crawl into the crawlspace. Oh, yes, the bats are still with you.

Room with fire in small holes in the wall:

Bringing Secret #1! Crawl until you can stand up. Wait around a while for all of the bats to show up before continuing on. Pick up the red shotgun shells and the crossbow ammo from the chests. Wait for the fire to die down and run forward to one of the holes and pull out blue shotgun shells.

But there are additional items to pickup. After retrieving the Blue Shotgun Shells from the only hole without continuous fire, reach in a second time and Lara flips a Switch. The hole directly behind her now has a modulating flame with Uzi Clips waiting. Also make an additional reach into this second hole to flip another Switch which modulates the flame in the hole next to the ladder and completely turns off the flame in the fourth hole. The hole next to the ladder yields a Large Medi-Pack, while the forth (with NO flame) will release Scarab Beetles from the ceiling.

Large Hall with torches:

Continue down the hall towards the lever on the floor. No time for sightseeing, just get to that lever and push it over. One of the guardians of Semerkhet has just coming busting through the door and is headed your way. A rather fancy bull that carries its own Armour is now chasing your tail all through the hall. Might as well go on a terrorising sightseeing run to investigate the rest of the hall beyond the door.  Unfortunately, you just scare up some bats, so now you have the bull and the bats chasing you. At the end of the hall beyond the now open door, there is a room to the right. Run into the room and climb up to the safety of some ledges.

Room at end of hall:

Shoot the bats. Get out your binoculars, and use the Action key to turn on the night vision. Look around the room. Find the small hole in the wall and pull out a torch. Time to run with the bulls! Run back down the main hall and find the short block near the torch. Use the Action key to light the torch. The bull is still hanging around, so jump over him and return to the room at the end of the hall. Light the two lamps on the wall which opens the door in the room. Drop down into a dark tunnel.  Room with spiked ball.

Secret #2! Approach the three pedestals with the goodies at a diagonal to avoid those spikes that appear after you pick up the goodie. Pick up a large medi-pack (which drops a spiked ball), crossbow ammo and red shot gun shells. Return to the room at the end of the hall.

What do I do now?

Maybe you can't open doors, but I bet you know someone who can. Lure the bull all the way to the other end of the hall near where you started. Get the bull near the door at the end of the hall, and if you are lucky, it will break down the door. Go through the open door with nipping at your heels.

Room with eye symbols:

The bull is chasing you around and there is nowhere to go. Time to have Lara play matador with her body. Run in front of each eye symbol and wait for the bull to take a run at you. At the last minute, run out of the way and the bull will smash the eye piece. Keep chugging medi-packs until all three eye symbols have been smashed by the bull. Two doors are now open; take the door on the right. Run around the corner and climb up before the bull shows up.

Top Floor above room with eye symbols:

Walk around the top floor perimeter taking the path to the right.  The floor is raised on one part of the ledge. Look up to see a hole in the ceiling. Jump grab to the high ledge and climb up. A deadly and nasty Secret #3! Save your game. Avoid the centre of the floor (ball with spikes), and walk along the edge of the room and pick up one of the goodies. I chose the red shotgun shells. The other goodies light on fire.

Stay away from the fires. Jump to the edge of the room. Another ball with spikes drops over the exit. Crawl backwards under the ball with spikes, and use the Action key and back arrow to lower yourself to the floor below. Run around the perimeter of the room and find the stairs going up.

Go up the stairs and avoid the centre of the room. Pick up red shotgun shells, a small medi-pack and Uzi clips as a spiked ball drops out of the ceiling. Go back down to the bottom floor.

Bottom floor - Room with eye symbols:

Run back into the large room and this time take the left door.  Follow the hall and do a jump grab to the climbing wall. Climb up to the top.

End of Level

Secrets: 3 (Total 40 out of 70)

There is a bug in the PC Version. The movie at the beginning of the Desert Railroad crashes for some people. Try disabling bump mapping.

Movie:

Lara climbs out of the tomb and sneaks up behind her former guide and puts both pistols to the back of the guide's head. Lara: "Hands on your head!" Lara looks over the goings on down below and demands "Take me to Von Croy!"  Lara watches a helicopter take off. Lara “Where is he headed?" The guide replies, "You waste your time."

Lara: "This attitude problem. You people need to learn some manners.  Tell me now or you've just run out of time!" The guide replies, "Alexandria". Lara then thanks the poor guide on the head and knocks the poor fellow out. Next, Lara dons the guide's robes and turban and sneaks down and onto the train. Lara disrobes and snarls, " Your workforce is about to be delayed!" In another car, a guy with a match tries to see into a dark box. Red beady eyes look back. The match falls, the guy screams as the red beady eyes......
