Level 27

Citadel

Beginning:

After the soldier drives the ammunition truck into the dragon in Citadel Gate, Lara enters the area that the dragon was protecting. Enter the dark hall and run to the end.

Movie:

Lara enters a room and finds Jean Yves tied to a round pillar. Lara frees him.

Jean Yves: Thank God, you made it. Von Croy! I saw it myself. I would not have believed such a thing. He is possessed of Set! 

Lara: Get out of here Jean; I have a feeling that things will turn nasty.

Jean: He is digging under the Citadel into the Crusaders Vault in search of the ceremonial tablet. The tablet which contains Set's binding incantations. Be careful, Lara. I fear there are things in the vault that man was not meant to see.

Lara: I am not a man, Jean, and I am always very, very careful.  Next, we see Von Croy digging in the dirt.

Von Croy whispers: "We have it.

The ancient Ceremonial Tablet." He hands it to his Ninja. "Take it and prepare it and see if the Croft woman has arrived with our Armour.  "(Armour of Horus). Von Croy uses the Amulet of Horus to open a door. Beyond the door lie long dead Knights of the Crusades with red eyes. Von Croy waves his hands and the knights arise from the dead.

Room with central round pillar and large gold doors:

Not much you can do now and Jean Yves has disappeared. Find the entrance to the next room with the central round pillar and another rope.

Room with central round pillar and rope ledge:

Looks like you should be able to do something in the alcove with the rope. Nothing works, so keep exploring and find the stairs on the south side of the room.

Room at top of stairs with lever:

Push the lever to open the large gold doors downstairs. Look around in the alcoves with the burning torches and find a Torch on the floor. Light the torch by standing near the burning torch on the wall and using the Action key. Go back downstairs to the room with the central round pillar and rope ledge.

Room with central round pillar and rope ledge:

Do a simple jump into the alcove with the rope and light the rope on fire. The rope burns and lowers a floor in the room with the gold doors.

Room with central round pillar and large gold doors:

Check out what is behind the gold doors and pick up some Uzi clips.  Drop down into the sunken floor and make your way through a cave. At the other end of the cave, look to the left in an alcove for some blue shotgun shells opposite the exit of the cave. Go to the exit of the cave and find yourself high above a large chamber with water at the bottom.

Large chamber with pool of water:

As you approach the chamber from the cave, a guy in a light blue Aladdin outfit dashes up the stairs and pushes a lever. Take a simple jump to the ledge on the left of the cave entrance. Explore the chamber near the cave entrance using the Binoculars and press the Action key for night vision... You will soon discover that the tantalising large medi-pack in the hall is very deadly.  Jump over to the ledge near the smaller chamber with water at the bottom and with higher stairs that go nowhere.

Take a long running jump across to the higher stairs. Go to the top of the stairs and look up to see a monkey bar swing.  Swing across the room and look to the right for a crawlspace. Face the wall by the crawlspace squarely, then drop to the crawlspace by letting go and quickly pressing the Action key. Secret #1! Climb into the crawlspace and drop down on the other side. Pick up blue grenade gun ammo and a large medi-pack. Go back to the crawlspace and then drop to the water below.

Bottom of chamber with pool:

The odds are you are going to fall down sooner or later. If you do fall down, swim to the bottom and pick up the large green grenade gun ammo. Climb out on the large ledge. Opposite of the large ledge is a pillar in the dark corner. Take a long running jump with grab to the pillar and then make your way back up to the ledge near the small chamber with the pool and the stairs that lead nowhere.

Large chamber with pool of water:

Take a long running jump across to the stairs that lead nowhere and look around until you spy the crack in the wall under the ledge which is part of the main chamber. Return to the ledge of the large chamber.

The crack in small chamber with pool of water:

From the ledge that is in the large chamber, drop over the edge and let go and quickly press the Action key to drop to the crack.  Shimmy along the crack until you can go no further.

(Try to keep the drop distance as small as possible.) Now let go and quickly press the Action key to drop to the lower crack. Shimmy along with Lara's feet dragging in the water until you can climb up using the Crawl key. Drop down on the other side of the crawlspace into a very small pool of water and pick up the Uzi clips. Do a jump grab to another crawl space. 

Save your game. 

Drop down and immediately back flip from the slanted block to another slanted block. Now do a standing jump with grab from the slanted block to another crack. Shimmy left until you can pull up into the crack with the small medi-pack.  Now take a long running jump with grab to the ledge at the bottom of the stairs.  One of the Aladdin guys is shooting at you. Now run up the stairs and find yourself near the roof of the large chamber with pool of water.

Large chamber with pool of water, near the roof:

Must be heading the right way because another Aladdin type is waiting for you at the top of the stairs. As you approach the lever, another one shoots you in the back. Push the lever to turn off the flames by the large medi-pack. Go to the top of the stairs and take a long running jump to the ledge by the cave entrance below. You will lose some health from the jump.

OR

To get down, go to the alcove near the lever. Get full health and you can drop to the floor below. There is also a high crawlspace in the alcove, crawl down it. Again to drop to the floor below.  Be sure you are at full health before you drop.  From the area near the cave entrance. Jump to the ledge with the large medi-pack (The lever you pushed earlier reverses the action.) Now stepping near the large medi-pack turns off the flames. Pick up your well-earned medi-pack and continue down the hall and down the stairs beyond the hall with flames and large medi-pack.

Chamber with four moveable tables:

Investigate all of the corners of the room and come up with a small medi-pack and red grenade gun ammo and green grenade gun ammo. Look on the top of each table and you will see a letter. The four tables have the following letters N, S, E, and W which stand for North, South, East and West.

Stand on one of the four symbols on the floor and face a door and then look at your compass in the inventory to see which direction is which. Note that the red arrow points to the compass direction. The stairs is south. Move all four tables to their north, south, east and west symbols on the floor. When done, the three doors will open.

Use the Look key to see the letters on the top of the tables. The recommended order for placing the tables is N, E, W, S. If you place the tables on there spots. Move them off their spots, then place them back in this order - N, E, W, S.

Puzzle overview:

To solve this confusing puzzle, you must first pull the underwater overhead switch, AND THEN you must close the trap door. Otherwise nothing will happen. The best way to do this is drop down through the open trap door, find the underwater switch and pull it. Find the switch off the room with the tables and use it to close the trap door. Return to the main underwater chamber and find the land switch. Push it and go back to the room with the jewelled chain.  The following paragraphs provide more details about solving the puzzle.

Chamber with tables- west door to trap door room:

Enter the west door, go down the hall and enter a room with a door in the floor and pits on the sides of the room. Drop down into the left pit and pick up some flares. Now drop through the hole in the floor into the underwater chamber. Underwater Chamber with tunnels- south tunnel to underwater switch in the underwater chamber, take the south underwater tunnel. Swim down the tunnel until you reach a small room.

Look for the hard to see switch at the centre of the ceiling. Swim close to the switch and use the Action key to pull the lever which shuts a door in the air pocket above the main underwater chamber. Get some air than return for a small medi-pack in the corner.

Return to the main underwater chamber.

Underwater Chamber with tunnels- west tunnel to land switch from the main underwater chamber, take the west tunnel. This has a lever which you cannot activate until the water is removed.

Underwater Chamber with three tunnels - north tunnel to jewelled chain room:

From the main underwater chamber, take the lowest tunnel. Use this tunnel to go back to the room with the jewelled chain. From the underwater tunnel, surface by the jewelled chain (which you cannot pull until all the water is removed.)

Pick up the revolver ammo in the corner.  Then return to the main chamber with the four moveable tables.

Chamber with tables - east door to switch room:

From the chamber with tables, enter the east door and go down the hall. Upon entering the room with the lever. Two baddies in white try to mug you.  Push the lever and you get a cut scene showing an underwater cylinder with bubbles coming up from a door. This switch opens and closes the door in the room with the door in the floor.  (

To solve this confusing puzzle, you must first pull the underwater overhead switch, AND THEN you must close the trap door in the room for the West Door of Chamber with tables.) Return to the chamber with tables.

Chamber with tables - north door to jewelled chain:

From the room with tables, take the north door to the room with the jewelled chains. Swim back down the underwater tunnel to the main underwater chamber.

Underwater Chamber - west tunnel:

In the main underwater chamber, the water level has dropped. To understand take the west opening above the water to find the land lever. Push the lever to open two doors at the bottom of the underwater chamber. Swim down and pick up the Uzi clips in under one of the now open doors. Swim through the underwater tunnel back to the jewelled chain.

Room with jewelled chain:

First climb out and kill the white baddie and pick up the small medi-pack he left behind... Now pull the jewelled chain with the action key to open the door. (Note: pulling the chain too many times closes the door.)

Go through the open door to the cave.

Cave:

Find the crawlspace high in the wall of the cave. Climb up and down the other side.

Room with Knights:

You get a cut scene as two knights with long broadswords move in on Lara. I don't think you can kill them, but they move pretty slowly.  Run around the room until you find the ramp that leads to the top (or you can climb up it). Remember the bull? Stand by the boarded up doorway and wait for the knights to hack you with their broadswords. 

Then jump over them and get out of the way. Hopefully they will break the boards with their swords. Now drop down to the lower floor and not into the pits. Wait for the knights to go back down the ramp, then climb up and go through the passage that was previously boarded up. Climb up.

Large cave with torches:

Explore the top floor and pick up Uzi clips and crossbow ammo. Drop down to the lower floor. In one of the side areas is a deep pit.  Carefully look at the floor of the deep pit until you see a crawlspace. Drop into the pit and drop down to the crawlspace. Climb up and follow the tunnel until you reach the room with the knights. Secret #2!

While dodging the knights and their swords, run around the room and pick up a large medi-pack, blue grenade gun ammo, cross bow ammo, blue shotgun ammo and revolver ammo.

Slide down the ramp back to the large cave with torches.

Leave the level by the centre gap.

End of Level

Secrets: 2 (Total 62 out of 70)

Movie:

Lara looks around as she explores the cave and stumbles upon Von Croy with his jackals. Lara gasps in shock at Von Croy's appearance for he looks half dead with a wrinkled grey face and red demon possessed eyes.

Von Croy whispers: "Come here, Lara. I have been expecting you. Come to me child. Do not fear your old colleague. I merely require the Armour that you have in your possession."

Lara: "And in return?"

Von Croy: "I will grant you vigour as those around you fall. You shall command the ultimate power - that of life or death over those you choose to have at your side and in return they will bow at your feet and give worship.

Lara: "Got my fair share of that already. And besides give a jackal your hand and he will bite off the whole arm." Lara runs to the wall with the Amulet. She uses her crowbar to pry the Amulet of Horus from the receptacle in the wall which causes the door to close trapping Von Croy and his jackals. The jackals bark and yip, and Lara remarks," Barking Mad!"

Lara climbs out of the Citadel and takes a swan dive into the water, but somehow ends up on a road in the mountains.
