Trajan's Market

Street:

Enter the room with the wheel barrow and the crates. Shoot the box and pick up a laser sight. Across the street in the coal room, shoot the box and pick up the crowbar. Explore the rest of the area. Then use the crowbar to open the metal door with the Pericolo sign. Crouch and shoot the box to pick up a small medi-pack. Climb up the scaffolding to the tightrope.

Tightrope:

From the crate with the tightrope, take a diagonal standing jump with grab to the barred window and pick up a small medi-pack. Use a simple jump to get back to the tight rope. Walk across the tightrope, then make your way up to the walkway above the street.

Above the street:

After the walkway, use simple jumps to the short ledge. Use a long running jump with grab to the ledge with the red shotgun shells. Use a long running jump with grab to get back to the short ledge. (Note, from the short ledge and facing away from the ledge with the shotgun shells, you can take a long running jump to the high ledge on the left. But it is a wasted trip as there is nothing there.) From the short ledge, do a safety drop to the ledges below. Jump down to the pile of coal and pick up some flares. Grab the revolver ammo near the wooden gate. Jump back to the top of the coal pile and use a standing jump with grab to get back to the higher ledge.

Gear area:

As you enter the gear room, a cut scene shows a series of large gears. Jump to the final ledge, then do a safety drop to the floor. Explore the area and notice the huge disk that blocks the exit. Stumped? Look on up on the walls for a climbing ladder. Climb to the top of the climbing ladder, then climb sideways until you are over the sloped ramp. Slide down the ramp.

Gear area (upper level):

Take a long running jump from the ledge with the climbing ladder to the ledge near the palm tree. A simple jump to the short ledge and enter the room with a pull rope. Use the Action key to make Lara pull on the rope. Keep pulling the rope down until the two gears line up and you no longer see any cut scenes.

Return to the ledge with the climbing ladder. Use a long running jump with grab to the window with the lions. Pick up the Uzi clips. Now take one side step away from the right wall, and take a long running jump to the ledge on your right. A simple jump to the short ledge nearby and enter a room with another pull rope, pull the rope down until a cut scene shows the gears engaging moving the huge stone disk out of the way.

(Note: you must first pull the rope near the palm tree and then do this pull rope.)

You can now do a safety drop to the floor below taking a slight hit to your health.

OR

Return to the ledge with the climbing ladder using long running jumps with grabs. Make a long running jump with grab to the sloped ledge near the palm tree, then a long running jump with grab to the climbing ladder and climb down.

Enter the room with the huge disk and find the room with the gladiator statue.

Gladiator Statue:

The gladiator is a bit frightful, and I was a bit nervous about him coming to life in such close quarters. Not much to do, so go exploring. Look in the recess where the huge disk had been and climb up. Enter the room with the torches and lions. Use the crowbar to pry off the Golden Coin from the gate. Yikes, Rats! Climb out and run around in the open area to lose those critters.  While you are running away from the rats, run into the area with the low fence where you first dropped to the floor. Find an open trap door. Drop down and find red shotgun shells, blue shotgun shells and Secret #1 - a gold rose. Return to the room with the Gladiator.

Pick up revolver ammo and a small medi-pack. Insert the Gold Coin into the receptacle beneath the statue. This opens the gate back to the street.

Street:

Find the now open gate just to the right of the gear area gate. Explore around the houses, notice the now open gate on your left, carry on straight to find a closed gate on the left with a rose in the back right hand corner, which means we have to come back here again later. Now go through the open gate and find revolver ammo by one of the houses past the pool of water.

Waterfall:

Jump in the pool and find a small medi-pack near the underwater gate. Swim to the surface and climb out on the ledge behind the waterfall.

Pick up the revolver ammo just after you see your next foe - the amazing floating head!

 

Floating head:

A nasty creature! Run down the walkway near the floating head and drop to the floor. Run into the room with electrical generator and dive for cover behind the wall. Use the revolver with the laser sight and aim at its eyes. You can safely shoot the floating head from the area near the generator. Stand behind the low block and slowly side-step to the edge of the low block until you can get a clear shot at the head without being blasted. The floating head turns in a pattern, target one of the eyes where the floating head moves slowly. Gradually home in the target on the eye, waiting patiently for the floating head to come back to that pattern. After the floating head explodes, pick up the Mars Symbol.

Notice the valve stud on the electrical generator. Hmm, that overhead metal gantry looks interesting, stand on edge of the short block across from the generator and do a jump with grab to the metal gantry. Climb up and jump to ledge above the generator. Pick up Secret #2 - a gold rose.

Enter the floating headroom and find the revolver ammo on the left in the lower area.  Look on the floor for a trap door (in the floating head area). The trap door has a brown symbol.

 

(The floating head would now be on your right.)

Stand next to (not on) the trap door on the side with the symbol.

Use Action to open the trap door. Climb down the ladder below the trap door.

The sewer:

Walk around a bit and wake up the rats. The blasted critters follow Lara everywhere, so jump in the water and swim under the water.

(Note you may be able to avoid the rats by not jumping over to the other L shaped walkway. But the rats are kind of fun to watch and easy to avoid by staying underwater.)

Explore the underwater chambers, and swim into the small underwater chamber near the fan. Pick up a small medi-pack. Get some air, and find a small underwater opening above the centre fan. Swim down the underwater tunnel and emerge in a small room. Pick up the red shotgun shells, then use the crowbar to pry off the Valve Wheel. Return to the electrical generator in the room with the floating head.

Electrical generator in floating head room:

Place the Valve Wheel on the stud on the electrical generator. Turn the Valve wheel to shut off the underwater fan. Go back down the trap door to the sewer. Swim down to the centre fan and find an underwater tunnel at the bottom near the fan.

Underwater:

Follow the underwater tunnel, then swim to the chamber on the far left to find some air and a large medi-pack. Swim towards the two pumps. Since you can't swim against the current, let the current blow you against the back wall, then swim upward and find a room with a valve wheel. Turn the valve wheel to turn off the pumps. Swim back to the pumps and find the underwater opening to the right of the pumps. Swim up and exit the water.

SAVE YOUR GAME. 

Pick up the red shotgun shells and the Shotgun.

 

The gold Roman soldier:

You might have some problem killing him with anything but the shotgun.  If you missed the shotgun, find the shotgun near the gate to the water. Have a health pack or two. Run around dodging the big guy and give him a few shotgun blasts. You can lure the gladiator from the main room down the long hall and blast him while leaping side to side. If he gets near you in the long hall, dash past him to the main hall, roll and start jumping side to side while blasting him with the shotgun.

OR

You can be really brave and save on ammo, by using your pistols, but make sure you leap around a lot.

Eventually he falls down, and the gate to the underwater pool opens. Climb on the ledge and pick up the Uzi clips and the small medi-pack. Climb up the ledge above the pool and find another small medi-pack.

Exploring the neighbourhood:

Hmm, we have just killed a big baddie, and that seems to open up previously closed areas, so let's go exploring.  Do a safety drop to the ground and search among the houses and go out on to the street until you find the open gate that was previously closed.  Enter the courtyard with the palm tree and pick up Secret #3 - a gold rose. Return to the pool with the waterfall and jump in.

Pool with waterfall:

Swim down into the underwater opening and pick up the Venus Symbol. Continue swimming through the passage and to the top and climb out.

Three dragon building:

Aha, this is the pool near the three dragon building, and who is waiting for Lara?

Cut scene: Larson and Lara have a chat, then Lara is left standing while Larson shoots at her.

Shoot Larson while jumping side to side. He quickly falls down.

Cut scene: Larson stands up and the dragons break free from the wall and turn into snakes with dragon heads. They encircle Larson and take a bite, but find Larson rather unappetising and spit across the grass. Lara is left facing three rather angry dragon snakes belching fire.

To defeat the dragon snakes, jump sideways back and forth while shooting. Once they get pumped full of lead, one by one they will explode. Jumping sideways from the corridor at the side of the building seems worked best. You can take a rest and hide behind the building and have a medi-pack or two to refresh your health, then start jumping sideways again.

The wall keeps the sideways jumping in line, so you don't get crooked. You take 1, 2 or 3 jumps sideways and then return while shooting the dragons with your pistols. Once you get one of the creatures knocked off, you may want to save your game, so you don't have to start from scratch.

(NOTE: You can use the doorway from the pool and the garden gate walls to hide and repair your health)

After defeating the dragons, find the red and blue shotgun shells in the yard. In the corridor behind the building, pick up red and blue shotgun shells and a large medi-pack.

Place the Mars and Venus symbols in the receptacles. An explosion occurs and the door dances invitingly.

After the dragons:

Enter the mysterious door. Take a long running jump with grab over the spike pit and one more long running jump to the Philosopher's Stone on the wall. Slide down the ramp.

End of level.
