What do all the letters mean?


D.O.T.  A.D.I.
Department of Transport.  Approved Driving Instructor. The official qualification for Driving Instructors, without it you cannot charge for instruction. So check to make sure that your Instructor has theirs displayed.

DIAmond Advanced Instructor.
Run by Driving Instructors Association.  Biggest Driving Instructor's Association. Five Theory Exams covering Driving Theory. Teaching Theory. The Law. Motor Mechanics. Running a Driving School,  making
the Diploma in Driving Instruction.

RoSPA Diploma.
RoSPA (Royal Society for the Protection of Accidents) has it's own Advanced Drivers Association, which tries to reduce the risk of accidents.  To get this award you have to take an advanced driving test, which lasts for an hour and is graded, Bronze, Silver, or Gold.  This award has to re-tested every one or three years.  This in turn can reduce your insurance premiums.  The Diploma is designed
for Driving Instructor's so they can teach advanced driving
techniques.

I.A.M.
Institute of Advanced Motorists. Is a organization again to try to reduce the risk of accidents.  To get this award you have to take an advanced driving test.  Which can in turn help to reduce your insurance premiums. Once you taken and passed you are expected to keep the standard and only have to re-test voluntarily.

Guild of Experienced Motorists.  Is one of the oldest driving associations in the country.  I use there recovery service.

The other part of the DIAmond Advanced Instructor's exam is run by the Driving Standards Agency.  This involves a driving test which
lasts for a hour and in that hour you are only allowed to make two driving faults.
